News and Information
MEETING: Our next meeting is on February 21, 2019, and will feature a presentation by Barbara Northrup. Join us at 7:00 PM at Glynn Visual Arts, 106 Island Drive, Saint Simons Island, Georgia.
Thanks to everyone who came out to our January meeting! We heard about our member survey results from Richard Knight, who sorted and parsed lots of data from our recent survey and made it super easy for us to see the results! We also had great presentations from Mark Dennis, Jim Patrick, Phillip Mason, Hannah Warren, Nance Manderson, and Jim Squires. Our homework assignment for the month: shoot something inspired one of their presentations. Or, show us what YOU are working on now. Find more information about the assignment and how to submit your photos here.
CURRENT EXHIBITS: Through February 18, you can see an exhibit by CPG member Bob Kelterborn at the Golden Isles Visitor Center, 529 Beachview Drive, Saint Simons Island. “The Roads Less Traveled” spans his 50 years as a photographer. The subjects include the less-noticed scenes on the backroads of the South and depict the local vernacular. Read more about it in the Brunswick News.
Numerous guild members have photos on display at the Horton Gallery located in the Southeast Georgia Health System's Brunswick Campus. The exhibit features industrial and architectural photography by Ann Nermoe, Duke Smith, Elma Andrews, Jim Patrick, Lynn Cates, Michael Milner, Milton Schreiber, Nance Manderson, Phillip Mason, and Steve Kendall. Their work will be on display through the month of January.
Through the month of January, support Coastal Wildscapes and see awesome photography created in response to this year’s theme: Looking Inland: Fire, Forests, & Floodplains. Stop by the Ritz Theatre in Brunswick to view—or purchase!—these stunning photos.
OTHER NEWS: Palmers Village Cafe loves us and we love them, but they are refreshing their decor over the next few months. If you currently have work hanging there, please try to pick it up at one of our next two scheduled change outs: January 21 or February 25 at 2:30 pm. See more info on our Exhibits page.
Photograph (or just kick back and view!) the lunar eclipse (a.k.a., the Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse!!!) starting on the night of January 20. Totality will be at 12:12am EST on January 21. Get other info and the full timeline of the eclipse here.
Registration is open for Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest! It takes place near the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida, on April 24–28, 2019, and includes field workshops, classroom sessions, night and action shoots. It’s appropriate for both beginners and advanced photographers!
Congratulations to Shirley Robinson, whose photographs appear on the cover and in a multipage spread of PAWSmopolitan magazine.
